Setters were first bred in sixteenth century France. The first English Setter was bred by Sir Edward Laverack in the 1800s. English Setters are sometimes called Laverack Setters after their original breeder. English Setters come in several colorings and some are tri-color. There are two different varieties of English Setters, the field variety and the show variety.
